August - December
1. A Saxon math homework sheet will be sent home most nights.
Have your child complete both sides of the worksheet and then check his work.
This worksheet does not need to be returned to school. (The Saxon homework
sheets are meant to be a review and should be easy for your child.)
2. Continue reading with your child each night.
January - May
For homework each night complete the Saxon math worksheet
that is sent home. (Worksheet does not need to be returned.) Also, choose and
complete one activity listed below each night. Then initial the homework
calendar on the correct day. I will staple this calendar to the purple homework folder.
Monday - Math activities:
1) Student writes numbers before and after a number.
Ex: ___ 20 ___ 22 ___
2) Student counts by 10’s to 100 and writes numbers down
3) Student counts by 5’s to 100 or higher, and writes numbers down
4) Student counts by 2’s to 20 or higher, and writes numbers down
5) Student counts coins by values: pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters
(Use only one coin type at a time at first and then add mixed coins later in the year)
Tuesday - Sight word practice:
-Practice writing words from kindergarten sight word list. *
-Make flash cards of the sight words on 3x5 cards.
Students choose three words and write each in a sentence. (Encourage your child
to stretch out the words (Ex. “hhhaaattt”) and write down the letters for the
sounds they hear. Applaud their effort even if it’s not exactly right. Our
goal at this stage is to attach written letters to spoken sounds.
Wednesday - Read books together from the mini-book collection (sent home on Fridays)
or other books your child can read.
Student reads one book to parent. Student copies one sentence from the book on
a blank piece of paper, cut the sentence apart, mix up the words, put it back together,
and read the sentence. Check for accuracy.
Thursday - Partner reading.
Student touches each word as parent reads. Parent touches each word as student reads.
Choose any book you like.
Friday - New mini-book comes home!
Kindergarten sight words:
